essay tests and short answer.
I have found that a short answer quiz each week allows the business student with some factual content. At Mid-term and at the final I use an essay format to expand their thoughts after a series of short answer quizzes.
Hi Joseph - Thanks for your post! I think that as a Business instructor, your assessment plan is comprehensive. Great work! Best wishes - Susan
We don't utilize essay question type-tests.
I find that using an essay format for the final assesment shows how well the student has grasped the information given in the course. This works well in my marketing class where students are given a simulated situation and are then asked to explain how they will handle it. This will be the same type of critical thinking to be use in the real world.
Hi Gilbert - Welcome to ED 103! You have prepared your students by teaching them the foudations of marketing, built upon that foundation and now allow thrm to demonstrate the abilty to explain those concepts and relate them to what they will experience in the workplace - great work! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
We don't use essay style questions in our curriculum, short answer works best for our class. Most of the time, 10 short answer quizes last up to an hour because it takes the student a little bit of time to find the information in his/her notes. We allow open book testing because when a customer asks questions about their bike, the student/soon to be technician may need to refer to the service manual to give the customer the answer they need to know.
I have tried essay tests when the question is based on a technique. It seems too subjective on what the learner has understood and it makes it hard to grade.
I look for key words from the text and also an example from their lives to see application
