Bridging the gap.

I am an instructor at a technical college, and I find that my biggest issues arise in bridging the gap between the recent high school graduates and the students who coming back after raising a family or changing careers. So of course I have students who catch on quicker, have the time to go home and study all night, those who leave campus heading straight to work, and those who go home and are moms/dads. Any suggestions on how to shorten that gap, so that I am able to spend time going over the lessons so that those who require a little more time can catch it and at the same time not bore the other students by spending extra time or slowing down the lesson?

Hi Angela
I also teach at a technical institute I use a interactive form I begin each class with a reivew where I ave each student come up and participate in the reivew for me it is a hydraulic symbol or explanation keep it short and to the point, then I do a 15 minuet review of yesterdays material on monday I recap last week in about 20 minuets, I also ahve web sites i can give them wehre they can get extra help such as videos and animations

Always start lessons with a review of previous learning, then build a bridge to today's important lesson.

Linda,
yes these transitions are always a great strategy.
