Intrinsically, I'm motivated by the act of sharing information and learning from my students. I love to teach (or instruct). Extrinsically, I'm motivated by pay insentives. However, if I didn't enjoy teaching then there is no amount of money that would keep me doing it.
Intrinsic- I enjoy teaching a subject that students initially hate and then grow to understand and appreciate. I love seeing the blank expressions change to ones of clarity and then I know they will be able to use new tools in the real world.
Extrinsic- I teach math to students who hate it. When I receive compliments from collegues who are seeing students using their newly learned math skills in the kitchen, I feel motivated to step it up a notch more.
intrinsically I really get enjoyment out of turning on light bulbs and seeing the student get the material and really understand the subject being taught. and extrinsically I get a paycheck and this really makes teaching fun. I think getting paid for helping people better themselves is also a big plus.
I agree completely, I'm a third generation instructor and I absolutely love inspiring others to do their very best.
Intrinsic motivation for me to be a good instructor is the internal drive I have to be the best I can in my performance. I think I am often harder on myself than many other people are.
Extrensic motivation for me to be a good instructor is the phone calls and text messages I recieve when my students let me know they passed the NCLEX examination or they received a job they wanted.
jean-rene, congratulations on the Master Chef Course, what a great affirmation of your skills as an instructor. Demonstrations and simulations are great teaching tools and direct observation by the instructor is one of the most accurate methods of assessment. Thanks for sharing.

I enjoy seeing that my students can practice and replicate after I showed them a demonstration. An extrinsic reward is that my supervisor recommended I do a master chef course.
Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation is a great subject. I spent thirty-five years working in the field as a technician. I have a lot of practical knowledge and I truly love teaching. I especially like sharing stories of my experiences, good and bad, so the learning is more relevant.
I believe most all of the students that enroll at our school do so because of their passion for motorcycles. It appears that many, I won’t say lose their passion, but they become more focused on grades and certification than the knowledge and experience they could and should be gaining.
Many of the techniques in this course I have learned in the past, but it was really good for me to revisit many of the ideas put forth. Thank you
I am motivated by sharing what I know and my experiences to students. It is a great feelings helping others achieve their goals.
Intrinsic - I am motivated to do my best, to share my passion for the field. Thus, I can motivate my students.
Extrinsically - money is nice, but in the teaching field that can't be your motivation. The value is in sharing your knowledge.
WHAT MOTIVATES ME WILL IN TURN MOTIVATE MY STUDENTS.
INTRINSTIC- GIVE STUDENTS CONTROL OF THE LEARNING PROCESS, BY ALLOWING THEM TO SET DUE DATES TO VARIOUS TASKS.
EXTRINSTIC- I WILL OFFER PINS & CERTIFICATES FOR EXCELLING.
Ronnie, great post and the desire to impact your industry is a great motivator. As an instructor we have a great opportunity to shape our industries based on the students we produce into these areas. Thanks for sharing.

Intrinsic motivation for me is more than a desire to feel competent. I love and wish to help further evolve the industry that I teach in. So If I can impart even part of my enthusiasm and knowledge into my students, I know they will go out into the world ready and eager to help. Which will in turn save lives, both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation.
Other Extrinsic factors would be pride in the school and obtaining industry recognition as a facility that produces an outstanding product, motivated and educated workers. This will boost student numbers and help promote growth in the school as well as open other doors for advancement.
Wow... I was completely unaware of the terminology behind motivation.
To me the after going through this course I discovered that I am a highly Intrinsic individual always pushing myself to become better. It appears as if I am never reaching the desired outcome, even though I am through the learning process, the feeling is that of never being good enough.
I do however enjoy a good reward (who doesn't!) So in my experience the extrinsically based motivators are the look I see on individual students faces once they understand a concept or method. The student stating that they were excited to be in my class and to participate at a level they never knew they could achieve.
This is a fascinating subject... I cannot wait to learn more about it!
For me it is not about what I know but what I can enable others to do. I am not particularly motivated by extrinsic factors.
Nicole, students are very aware if their instructor is interested in them and the subject matter. Getting students to engage and be motivated in your classroom is directly related to how they perceive your interest in them and how interesting you appear to be to them.

I am intrinsically motivated to be effective in the classroom because I enjoy the subject that I am presented to the students. When I am excited and enjoy the subject this intrinsically motivates my students.
My students getting excited about the subject, getting good grades, actively involved in discussions definelty motivates me extrinsically. I get excited when my students are excited
I am intrinsically motivated by more knowledge and continuous changes within my area of expertise, I am always learning and keeping up to date with ever changes of Human Resources.
Extrinsically I am motivated by continuing to grow within the career of academia. I am motivated by becoming the best in my position while having the opportunity to grow within the organization by also being a positive influence to the student population and my peers.
Thanks so much,
Kelsey
Intrinsic motivation to myself as a teacher is the love of new learning. This can be as simple as learning where Indians originated to finding the derivatives in calculus. I simple love to learn and hope I can instill this into as many students that I may teach.
Extrinsic motivation is from the support I receive from my family or peers. It comes from the satisfaction that my students did well on an exam and they feel that the course they just took helped them with their current goals. Surveys from students with good reviews are a great extrinsic motivator.
Matthew, happiness is an intrinsic value while the joy you experience each pay date is extrinsic. Some people make more money but are very sad in their career while others may make much less money but are more fulfilled. If you have the ability to ever watch the documentary titled Happy on Netflix I highly recommend it to you and your students.
