Eliminating Stress

It is hard for some people to talk to others about things that may be stressing them out. Some things can be personal and in this module it said to talk to others. When it comes to work related stress, it may be good to talk with the director to come up with ways to eliminate the stress.

i will agree with you most of the time its hard to open up.i have just had a meet with my boss and i walked out a lot happyer

That's great to hear Joseph. Sometimes just reaching out and connecting with your boss, colleague, friend or family member can make a huge difference. It just takes the initiative to setup the meeting and strike up the conversation.

I like your thinking Tonetia. Sometimes it's good to reach out to our managers and get their perspectives on how to resolve work stress. Often times, they will have been in similar situations in the past and can offer advice based on experience.

There are times when I go into my Manager's office and just discuss things that might be stressing me at work. I leave the office feeling much better even if the concern has not been eliminated.

Sometimes it can be very stressful to open up and talk to another person. This could be from low self esteem and fear of rejection. We should reach out to people who seem stressed and do everything we can to encourage them.

I know it's hard to reach out Wilmer. Sometimes we reach out and do get rejected and this decreases our likelihood of doing it again in the future. It's essential to find those people in our lives who are good listeners, who are really there for us and who can help us no matter what.

I always use the saying: We cannot fix what we don't know is broken.

This sounds easy, but it can be difficult when trying to address sensative issues.

Scott

This is good. One should always have an open door policy so subordinates can "vent."

Communicatiion is really the key. You need to communicate-moreimportantly, LISTEN and things tend to work themselves out. A good "vent" can be very productive.

Scott

The art of listening is an important skill to manage Scott so I'm glad you bring this up. We can learn so much if we take the time to really understand where others are coming from.

I find that talking to my Supervisor once a week helps keep me keep me center

That is also one of my BIG stress relievers, talkiing with my supervisor. Doing so allows me to address any issues with my work and allows me to vent frustrations. After each time I vent to my supervisor, I make sure to thank him for listening and sharing advice. By sharing with others, also seems to help me come up with my own solutions.

I think speaking with your Director is a good way to seek advice for stress management, however make sure that you go to your director with some ideas to work from. You dont want to give the director a reason to believe that you cannot think fopr yourselves.

This is a good point Michael. When presenting problems to fellow faculty members and your administration, it's important to show that you can offer solutions too.

This is a good system Charles but be careful when venting to your supervisor. On one hand, you want him to know about your situation and it's good to have someone to listen. On the other hand, it's also very important to present a confident and in control image to your administration.

I had gone to a stress management class before which gave us ideas on to eliminate or reduce stress. I have always used this and it helps, adding to this is what I've learned in this module, ie: talking to others- I have no problem sharing things to others as long as I know they can be trusted. I think talking to my director will also help, I know she is here for us always!

Great to hear that you've learned some about good stress management but that you're also opening yourself up to learn even more Adelaida.

Just recently we had a mandatory meeting of instructors for our particular department. Part of the meeting was a venting session where alot of us realized that we were not the only ones dealinf with particular classroom issues. To know that we were not in a one man fight was a HUGE stress reliever.

I do not beleive that sharing personal stress with co-workers is appropriate or professional. Everyone deals with stress differently and speaking to friends and family about personal stress is a completely acceptable form of stress relief. Speaking to co-workers at the work place is not, in my opinion. Work place stress is managable by speaking with a supervisor and asking for help. Most supervisors know their role and understand that in order for employees to be productive they must listen to and help the instructor.
