Brian,

Good use of classroom technology as plagiarism remains rampant in higher education. As faculty we need to do what we can to set an expectation that must be meet when submitting course work. For example APA format is important for a number of reasons. One of the most important is that it gives credit where credit is due and could cut down on the issues you addressed.

I currently use Artist Access in the clasroom, it allows the students to follow in the online textbook, it also allows them to go in and test themselves on what they have learned, it allows me to go in and track students use of the program, and to see how well they do on the test they take, this helps me see areas where further discussion may be needed on certain subjects to give the students a better understanding.

Ranee,

This seems to be a good use of classroom technology. You as an instructor can get a pulse of who is taking advantage of the resources given and what material the class may be struggling with.

I use a LCD projector when teaching graphical software such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. In addition to allowing students to see what I'm doing with the software on my work station it's also useful for giving Power Point presentations provided by the text publishers. Students also use the internet in class for research projects and text message their questions to me as I have a profound hearing loss.

David,

A good balance of classroom technology is being used and the students learn visually, verbally and physically (kinesthetic). This is very beneficial if you have a large classroom.

As a facilitator oh higher education, I value the integration of innovative technology in the classroom, particularly because it prepares our students to compete in a global environment. Besides the use of traditional and dated forms of technology such as PowerPoint, I use the zooming presenter PREZI to capture students’ interests and motivation, creating a meaningful and successful learning environment. It allows for all types of imagining and users are able to link imagery to motion, which in turn generates a deeper understanding and retention duration.

Ruth,

Technology in the classroom will indeed assist our student as graduates today need to come into their field tech savvy. Prezi is a great presentation tool for spicing up the mundane PowerPoint that many of us use. Resources such as this will play a role key role in retention.

I'm using a number of technology tools in my classes:

I use PowerPoint presentations to enhance delivery of lectures, and as a visual aid for my students.

The courses that I am teaching also have on-line assessments, simulations to teach software applications, and the also have discussion forums.

In addition to these two tools, I have my students create group blogs on various topics.

Using these tools and others helps keep the class interesting, and because this generation of students are tech conscious, I cannot see not using technology in the classroom.

Also, since I am a technology instructor, it just makes sense to use technology in my classes.

Ruth,

It is good that your classroom has a good mix of technolgy tools. Keeping students engaged and meeting the needs of various learning styles is important.

I teach math and anatomy & physiology in a career college. For math class I cannot forsee technology ever replacing working problems on the dry-erase board. However, anything is possible! For my anatomy & physiology lectures I use an over head projector with transparencies that I have customized to coordinate with my lecture and the material to be tested on. Feedback from students is favorable since their learning is both auditory and visual. Other instructor at my school only lectures and draws on the board. Feedback I get from her is that many of her students stuggle with testing success, but my students do not. I have discussed the need for a more visual approach with her.
In the near future I plan to transfer my lecture transparencies to a power point program. To me, it will do little to improve my lectures, but it would have the advantage of beng able to email the power point lecture to students who where absent. This would be beneficial to students.

Wayne,

Many agree that when it comes to math no technology can replace a chalkboard, pencil and paper. It is good you can communicate with fellow faculty and share opportunities that may allow students with various learning styles to become better educated. A balance of projectors, powerpoint, lectures and etc. is a good mixture for traditional learning and using technology in the classroom.

I have a computer and a projector in the classroom. It benefits my ultrasound students due to the fact that I include so many images as well as short video clips in my power points to help them to see the ultrasound appearance of normal anatomy as well as pathologies. Afterall, images mean everything when it comes to ultrasound.

Jennifer,

Good job using classroom technology in the classroom and sharing course material in a manner that helps various learning styles.

I believe to use the technology that you are familiar with. Not just using because others are using as well. I use power point technology and really contributes to address to the topic not just by delivering text but via diagrams as well

Adnan,

I believe in using what you know so that a student gets the best teaching from you but still important to stay relevant by being aware of new and better technologies.

Currently in my classroom I use the following systems or programs. For communications, grading and handing out course material I use Engrade (CMS). This has helped me save time in the classroom, by not having to make copies of handouts and homework assignments. It also helps in the collection of homework and assignment. In class I also use a computer simulation program called TestOut (LMS), this allows student to review class material and to have hands on practice fixing computer problems. By use both of these system more of my students have a better understanding of the entire course.

Frank,

Good use of technology in the classroom as the resources you provide benefit you the instructor from a feedback and grading standpoint and the students for an application/learning standpoint.

In our classrooms we have an instructor’s computer connected directly to a media projector that is projected toward a magnetic dry-erase board with a pull down screen. This allows instructors to project images directly onto the dry-erase board so they and students can interact with it. If more visibility is needed, the screen can be pulled down. Each instructor’s computer also has high-output speakers each with a subwoofer. Each computer has the capability of running DVDs and is connected to the internet.

This aids learning by providing an easily accessible way to present lessons to multiple learning styles. The barriers to playing a video or audio file are low making it more likely for teachers to use consistently. Access to the internet allows teachers real-time access to the learning management system, making them more likely to use it.

I use the internet and video projector daily in my classes. Being able to share video, audio and website resources during presentation is invaluable to delivering pertinent, to-date content and keeping the class fresh. I also use Powerpoint to demo software features, a great way to distill information and cut through marketing filler often found in commercial instructional materials.

Jason,

Great use of technology being used by your institution. The internet has allowed faculty to provide information (feedback, grading lessons, etc.) to students virtually.
