My Level of Technology

Hello All,

I was pondering on what I wanted to talk about after viewing this particular module. I began to think of my level of technological expertise and upon finishing my evaluation I must say that I am pretty savvy. That being said, I think it is important for instructors to at least have the basics down when it comes to the technology necessary for our classrooms. Although primarily, our responsibility is course content, I think it is also important that we are able to answer questions that students may have regarding technology (i.e. how to attach multiple documents). What are your thoughts?

Gregory Becoat

Gregory,
You do want to transfer course knowledge to your students, but you have to be able to direct them in their journey to obtain the knowledge. Technology is a fear of many, so we need to be ready to help.

I agree. The instructor needs to be able to address student fears of the technology. From my experience, many people get “hung up” on the technology and become concerned they will need to program or develop software.
Course tools and platforms today are sophisticated and graphical. A good course developer and instructor can develop an excellent class without knowing the code of the software.
The more you use technology, the less fear you experience. Training also helps.

Personally, I have a superior or expert level of technology. Years ago, I made floppy disks turn round and round. I was a ROM developer. In the long run, the knowledge that I gained has proven to be very useful in many situations.

Donald,
You have seen what has been and what is now....so what is coming??? :)

I like the last statement 'Training also helps.'
What kind of training and where do I get it???

Helen,
MaxKnowledge has a lot of training opportunity as well as many other online self-help sites.
