Heather,
This is a good point. The first class should be a clue to students as what to look forward to. So let's give them something to look forward to!

Kathleen,
You are right on the high quality media available for us to use. There are times when we need to take a little extra time to find what we need.
Shelly Crider
Ali,
This also gives the students an opportunity to pick up more technical confidence!
Shelly Crider
Eric ,
I do like the blended form as well for students. This gives them the opportunity to know if they do indeed know the content they are learning in class.

I agree. Frustrating the student can occur if they cannot easily locate items and can reduce retention if the content is not engaging visually, auditorily, interactivly, etc. My two kids successfully completed highchool online and are sucessfully completing college online. I am a novice to online courses and hope to dive into the milenium with understanding and confidence in my skills.
I strongly agree. I teach the first course of the series and I feel that the easier it is for student to find things the better they do in the course. If they can't find the information they need they can easily get discouraged and can quit.
I feel like the look and feel of an online course is so important. High quality media in this day is so easily obtainable. Being involved in a school of the arts, our presentations incorporate many photos, videos, and diagrams. The students are inspired and engaged in the instructional material.
There are so many bad content writers these days. Basic writing skills seem to be a rarity, so incorporating multi-media helps keep the learning on track.
I agree that the look and feel is extremely important. Not all students are technically savvy and so the look and feel must be very intuitive for the students so they don't get discouraged and discontinue with their online education.
I'd say that about 1/3rd of our blended content is online, and in the course of building the videos and quizzes we use, I'd say that the design of the visuals is very important. As with many things, colors, effective layouts, and motion where possible help to draw the student in. Along with our recorded audio content, it makes for a reasonably compelling combination.
Natasha,
good point....if a student feels they are learning easily, then they will learn even more!
Shelly Crider
Carlos,
You hit on a major topic. Most students are very busy and that is why they do take online classes!
Shelly Crider
Norman,
I like the professional aspect that you brought up. Boring is simply not an option is this day and age!
Shelly Crider
Susan,
What type of programs do you utilize? Have you used screenr yet?
Shelly Crider
Susan,
Good to hear that communication is such an important factor. This makes students feel the class is real!
Shelly Crider
When I talk with students about online learning, I include technology to enhance modalities of learning. For example, if a student has the new droid or iPhone they can audibly listen the text ... plug it in and multitask. I also suggest emailing class links and play the lessons on the go. Susan
Hi Shelly,
Sure, online design and appearance is a course appeal and interest factor. AIU courses are designed with the instructor responsibility to ‘communicate’ and continue with student interest and meeting educational goals. So, I would agree facilitators have a responsibility with encouraging the learning process, developing student ‘skills’ by maintaining course integrity and course intent with Socratic questioning, reasoning, and response. Inquiry and methodology are integral to a successful class and successful students.
I agree. The look and feel of the course correlates to addressing learning style and students' ability to navigate the course. This goes hand-in-hand with the knowledge and skills presented in the course.
I agree. The majority of the online students are individuals with very little time on their hands. Sitting down to take an online course that will present obstacles for them will simply frustrate the learner and discourage them.
Agree. You don't want it to be boring and you want it to be a professional product.
William,
It is ok to give the secuirty blanket....it makes the student bloom!
