E-Learning Discussion Board/Forum Best Practices

The purpose of the Discussion Board is to learn through sharing ideas and experiences as they relate to course content and the forum’s question.

A good way to keep the discussion board lively is by asking a good question that can trigger participants to delve more into the topic through research, evaluate existing ideas, and create new ideas.

Tina,
This can be very true. We as instructors really need to be in the discussion area. As mentioned previously, the more personal experience you can give, the more you will get.

Hi Shelly,
I do agree with you; however, I have found that many student's use the discussion forum as opinion pieces, it is oftentimes a struggle to prompt student's to understand that there should be supportive documentation or evidence that will coincide with their opinions, as opposed to merely repeating what they have heard from family and friends or even the media.

Ekwuniru,
This enhances critical thinking skills as well.
