All students learn differently. Using dynamic and multidirectional forms of communication allows students to be able to be more engaged by being more self directed. Our training involves computer training, lecture, demos, and hands on labs.

David,
Good variety here! Yes, various inputs and various outputs will help engage more learners in their own process of learning.

Dr. Ruth Reynard

By using these forms of communication you engage more of the students with their individual learning styles rather than trying to pigeon hole an entire class into one style

William,
Very true - do you have an examples of this and how it works with students/

Dr. Ruth Reynard

Yes I think it gives the student the opportunity to learn in different speeds and allows us to fill in the blanks for the areas they struggle in.

Dynamic and multidirectional communication forms allow us to address different learning styles in students. When this is combined with a student and instructor interaction the outcome can be positive!

Jeff,
Very true - do you have any specific examples of how you have seen this happen with your students?

Dr. Ruth Reynard

Communication has always been key to instruction. After going through this course, I can see how computers can better this interaction even though it may be out of our comfort zone.

Mike,
Very true - both immediate and collective communication is possible and constant throughout a course - great!

Dr. Ruth Reynard

you must find each students best learning style & try to approach the class at different levels so noone the fealing of being left behind or not understanding the principles coming at them.

Ernest,
Very true - from your experience, how can new technology help with this challenge?

Dr. Ruth Reynard

I think multi-directional forms of communication are important for learning because it allows for people to experience more than one avenue for learning. If you change the state of learning using different forms of communication, it will help keep your audience more engaged.

Taylor,
Yes, and also provides more networks as well - do you have any specific examples of the enriched communication possibilities?

Dr. Ruth Reynard

Every student learns a different way . the more choices we can give them the better chance we have in getting the point across.

I think that using dynamic and multidirectional forms of communication is very important for todays learners. Everyone has a preferred way of learning so you have to deliver information in different manners. In my class I use online classes, face to face lecture, and hands on demos to get the information across to the learners.

Dynamic and multidirectional forms of communication can heighten the students interaction in the learning process makiing it more engaging. They get the benifit from online learning and face to face interaction with instructor. Learning is maximized in the classroom by supplementing the online interaction.

People learn different, respond different and teachers even teach different, but the key is what engages the student not only to pay attention but to retain the information presented and using different training stratagies and learning tools will assist the students in learning, retaining and using the information provided to them. The teacher needs to be perceptive of what is engaging the student and use that method or methods.

Jim,

I like your point about retaining - how do you think new technology use can increase retention of information and development of understanding? What methods would you specifically use to achieve this?

Dr. Ruth Reynard

By offering different forms of communication, I am also offering students different ways to learn. They will be more engaged with the learning process because they can choose that which fits their style of learning, and learning now becomes fun, or exciting, or challenging; whatever the learner wants or needs it to be to satisfy his or her learning requirements.

No two minds learn the same, so you have to as a good instructor know that and how to address it.The best way I have found is to first repeat and reinforce the comment and then present it over again with differant verbage. This way you have covered all your bases.Throw out questions that the students have to respond to to make sure they understand.

Thanks
