hybrid courses

Hybrid courses sound wonderful --- as the module pointed out: benefit is getting the best of both in class and online situations. Although my online courses so far have been solely online this hybrid scenario make so much sense. Medical professionals are benefiting from online hybrid simulation education (Daniel & Wilfong, 2014).

Heidi,
Very true, this delivery mode accommodates various learning styles and optimizes the best of "both worlds".

I think that hybrid courses are going to be the way of the future moving forward. As online course enrollments level off and more 4 year public schools and community colleges continue to develop online courses I think that we will see more and more hybrid courses in the years to come. I think that the day will come, 10-20 years down the road when every single face to face course will have an online support or function to go along with it.

Douglas,
I agree and I think every course should - the convenience of online tools makes it easier for students, as well as the benefit from some of the self-directed tools that help to increase learner autonomy in a more conventional course.

I found that offering hybrid courses to students allows for the merging of learning styles and keeps their communication skills in check, as it sometimes easy to hide behind chat and typing your opinions in a discussion board.

My company implemented hybrid courses years back and we are seeing great results as far as student interaction and motivation in the classroom- not to mention retention overall.

Joseph,
Great points! Maintaining literacy expectations and expansion is an important focus. When we design instruction wither online or on ground we need to focus on the use and development of all literacy skills. I agree.
