A checklist will help, facilitate and save time for instructors, provided it is used properly, so they will have on hand regarding copyright that all aspects.
It is very important to have this checklist into the library, and all instructors need to know about this list for use.
Karely,
I use checklists for everything nowadays because it is so easy to forget the "smaller" things which can be very important.

Hello,
A checklist is always a good way to make sure you have covered all aspects of something such as a procedure to make sure you are following copyright guidelines.
I am an instructor and I felt very overwhelmed by this process prior to this course. I think the check list helps break the process down into manageable steps. I look forward to implementing it.
The checklist gives us the opportunity to double check our common sense, have a comparison of project to project, class to class and have a reasonable way to consider what is right and wrong.
It also helps someone like myself, who doesn't really think like other people to consider something from someone else's point of view and to fairly consider if and how something is fair or right.

Jennifer,
So glad that you got something out of this course to take away with you!

The use of checklist helps instructors in two crucial ways. First, the checklist narrows the field of copyright inquiry for the professor. Second, the checklist provides a proactive checks-and-balances system for making sure that all materials used in the professor's class are appropriate and legally used.
Michael,
glad that you liked the idea of the checklist!

First it works as a reminder, then it details the criteria and guidelines to be followed for staying within freedom of use boundaries
The checklist simplifies a lot of info for the copyright law. I was wondering if the university's compliance group can create a student’s version that can be posted in the Virtual classroom.
Having a check list removes doubt and establishes clear steps for the instructor to follow with regard to copyrighted materials. The check list approach can help identify materials that need permission for use and the steps necessary to acquire permission. Another important question is where to store the proof of permission in case of future challenges. Institutions use lots of Adjunct Professors and Instructors. These folks move around frequently. If an issue is discovered on a future audit, the question of proof of permission may be difficult to answer.
LE,
I always love the idea of a checklist because we instructors can get so busy in the many things that we have to do and we forget things. Of course, I am only speaking about myself! :)

Racquel ,

Hello:
A checklist provides administration and instructors with the time that is needed to be proactive in putting guidelines in place. Each institution should have a checklist to assist with walking through the necessary steps to ensure compliance.
The checklist could help reduce copy right violations and could reduce a possible lawsuit.
Having a checklist is a great way to make sure that you are complying with copyright policies. We often forget what these policies are and when there is a checklist in front of us, we have a reminder to make sure we stick to them.
I personally believe that legal matters can be quite complex and confusing at times. If there is an established checklist this can serve as the guide to ensure the proper copyright laws are being followed. It also ensures that all are performing the same steps to ensure they are behaving ethically and not engaging in copyright infringement. The checklist helps instructors navigate through the complexity of copyright laws and policies.
Michelle,
This is so true. Something easy like a checklist can streamline the process and hopefully, ensure that copyright laws are being followed.

A checklist helps insure good polices are used and put into place. A helpful map that helps with consistent copyright ethics when planning lessons. It seems like a great aid.
A Check List for the use of copyrighted works helps not only the faculty member to observe the guidelines of the U.S. Copyright laws, but it also helps the faculty member determine if the material is necessary for the classroom instruction or terminal course objections. The check list can be an evaluation of the materials and the motive of why the instructor wishes to use the materials. It can also ease the anxiety for the faculty member concerning the use of copyrighted materials.
