Technology Tools

One of the things to consider is if the students/professors will have the capability of using the tool. For example, if the tool requires a camera and a microphone and the student does not have this equipment, then it creates a major problem.

Another thing to consider is if the tool is supported by the operating system that the students'/professors' computers have.

Lastly, is the tool effective to accomplish the task that it is meant to.

Miriam,

You are correct. If you require something, you have to make sure they are available and the students can use them. Making sure you are using technology that all can access is important or have alternative assignments. Nice job.

I agree that this is an issue in many situations. Technology changes faster than we can keep up sometimes.

Faryl,

What are your other concerns?

Dr. Kelly Wilkinson

I use podcasts in my class. The reason for this is that it allows the student to practice their verbal communications skills while still allowing them to use the technology. There is generally a steeper learning curve to creating podcasts than regular text based tools, but I find that the students really enjoy it and it helps improve their learning process.

Linnea,

Great idea! Do students make their own recordings? What technology do you use.

Dr. Kelly Wilkinson

Linnea, I'm curious to learn how to develop those podcasts and what type of platform is needed to make it work. Perhaps you can shed a bit more light on this.

Do you find that more students attend chat since you have this type of technology or are more intimidated?
