Rubrics allow for clear communication of expectations for students and instructors. Carefully created rubrics are objectively based and help provide meaningful feedback to help a student achieve.

Sheila,

Yes, they help both students and instructors. The more we all understand the expectations and "where we are going" and how we will be assessed, the better. Thanks!

I find that rubrics add fairness and consistency to my grading. Prior to grading, a rubric provides students with a clear and concise documentation of the requirements of the assignment.

Stacy,

You use some of the great "C" words: consistency, clear and concise. Excellent.

Without the Rubic, the student would not have a clear understanding on how they are graded. The rubics provides this outline. Very necessary for student success.

Antonio,

Yes, and they are very important for the instructor as well. Thanks for sharing.

The rubric provides students with a guideline of what is expected on an assignment and how they will be evaluated. The goal is to provide clear expectations, objectives and outcomes for any given assignment. It is sort of like a road map for what I am expecting on an assignment.

Jorell,

Yes, I like the road map analogy. And, they are also beneficial to the instructors as well. Thanks!

A rubric is a communication tool used by instructors to show students where they excel and perhaps where they need to improve within their work.

Terry,

A communication tool - that it is. The key is that it helps both the instructor and the students. When we're all on the "same page," the better!

Thanks!

Hellol,
I believe the rubric is important as it provides a guideline for both the instructor and the student in setting the expectations for all course requirements.

Amer,

Yes - they help both the instructor and the students. That's a great thing. It's like two things in one! ;-)

Rubrics are important because they standardize the quality of grades and show students exactly what is expected, what they fulfilled and where they need to work.

Catherine,

Yes, it's one tool that helps both students and the instructor. Nice job! Thanks again.
