I just finished my first course ED 101 and loved it. I have been a nurse for many years yet never taught a class. This was helpful, I printed every page I could for future reference. I am excited to practice what I have learned so far. Thanks
Paulette
Hi - I completed ED117 - Generation Y students - this course provided some good insight into the characteristics of Gen Yers. I found it to be helpful in developing strategies for working with this generation in the classroom. Students from this generation prefer activities involving technology, however, they are not good critical thinkers and instructors need to work on this aspect with students. Most employers are looking to hire problem solvers and people who can analyze a situation. This is a challenge for this generation.
Hello,
I have just completed "Active Learning"
What have I learned? I learned to keep my students engaged and retaining what they llearn by continually staying active in the classroom and lab with the students and using props and drawings among other things like maintaining classroom manangement to keep my students engaged and on track with there work. I learned how to "active-ate" any lectures I may do by involving the students with hands-on projects to help them understand more of the curiculum.
How can I apply it/ I can apply the methods I have learned by using the sequence of finding the objectives then implementing stratagies and assessments when planning my lesson. I also learned that with the correct materias and time management I can relay the lessons more effectively.
What support do I need? I need the support of my fellow instructors for advise on matters of handling "hard-to-teach" students and of my Ed managers to encourage me to make changes as needed to any lessons in which I feel would need some fine tuning
I really enjoyed this course- I learned a great deal- I will incorporate the use of blogs in my english classes- I think that would be a great way to connect with students and for the students to connect with eachother. Lisa
I just completed the course, "ED106: Enhancing Student Learning." The most valuable thing I learned was how to properly address students that have learning disabilities, and how to encourage them to be successful. I can actually apply many of the concepts discussed in this course. For example, I will work on going to my peers for help whenever I am in a situation of monitoring students that I think I will have trouble handling myself. This is a big deal for me, because I can be bad about asking others for help; I always try to work through it on my own, but sometimes that makes it worse. I end up feeling self-conscious and ashamed. As for needed support, I think we need a professional on campus who is specifcally trained in how to handle students with disabilities. We do have some resources currently available (such as a study lab), but not all instructors have the specific knowledge or expertise on how to help an LD student learn and comprehend. So a professional who has specific background in this area I think would be quite helpful.
I will make lecture outlines to help my students learn the material
I just finished 117. I have found that as I teach the students are getting younger. The Y's are becoming more of the norm rather than the exception. I have through trial and error incorporated more active learning in my classroom. I am trying to pull away form the lecture format which I personally am more comfortable with and into using the tools available. I am actually finding giving some of the power to the students very freeing for me. I am requiring less of me and totally energizing my class.
Unfortunately, I am just not a techy. Even overhead projectors give me grief. I'd love to use more in the actual class rather than sending the students to the library. The library or media room tends to disrupt the focus. As our campus evolves hopefully more computers will become available in the classrooms and campus-wide internet or wifi will open up more avenues for us to explore with our students. In some ways I think the students enjoy "one-upping" the old, experienced teachers. Everyone has something to add to the class and the learning environment.
Hello to everyone I just finished the course and it provided me with a more incentives to get more engaged within the classroom. Allowing my students the opportunity to share frustrations about the course and allowing them to give me feedback provides a platform for learning and sharing within the classroom. I have been teaching for the past 3 years and the rewards are when they go to extern and deomstrate the skills we teach them here at our campus. This course allows me to view the strenghts and weaknesses within the presentation of the information I present to my students on a daily basis. This allows the forum to open with the intentions of learning from one another I always share with my students I learn just as much from you as you learn from me. Have a wonderful and peaceful afternoon.
Sincerely,
Ms. Ginell Agnew
This course has helped me the privilege of further understanding of how students learn from all perspectives and I intend to apply these concepts in my classroom
I have found this class to be helpfel. I am going to make some changes to my lectures
Hi all,
I am a new instructor in my first term of teaching. I just finished ED101.
I learned in this class that I need to approach my students with different perspectives. Lecture is not the only way to teach someone something - there are multiple options available to the instructor, as well as the students, such as hands-on and problem-based.
I plan on implementing more mini-lectures, in order to not bored my students. I have noticed that they tend to stare off into the sunset after about 20 minutes of lecture; so I have begun breaking up the lectures and adding activities into my class time. I just tried this last week, and their focus shot up.
I will continue to rely on my more experienced fellow instructors to give me some pointers, and make sure I continue to ask lots of questions!
I just completed EL102 and quite enjoyed it.

What have you learned? I learned about the different kinds of students; Noisy, Intimidator... and how they will respond differently to the discussion board. I also learned about the key role an instructor plays in an online course. I already knew this, but the training really drove it home by providing specific examples of how instructors contribute to online retention, etc.
-
How can you apply it? I currently teach online, so I will specifically use these methods of active engagement and visual aids to better enhance the classroom experience for my students.
-
What support do you need? I would like to take additional trainings on how to incorporate effective powerpoints and more visual and synchronous elements to my classsroom.

@srmeers1 : I have learned alot from the ED117 course. I am currently instructing a class of dental hygiene students that are mostly Gen. Y and this course really has given insight on how to help the students understand the material. I can also introduce different teaching methods. I have the resources and support to implement all the teaching methods I would like to or need to.
This is the first time that I have had any training as such with the MaxKnowledge. I think the ability to see the different types of learning and how best to use them has helped me the most. I have only just started teaching and these courses are quite helpful.
@srmeers1 : I have also just finished course 117 and I learned alot about myself and why I teach in the manner that I do. I am at the end of the baby boomer and at the begining of the GenX. So my exspectations from my sudents are driven by my Baby boomer side and my need to be innovated is the GenX side of me. In all I need to blend more into the thread of teaching these new generations while at the same time not losing what works from a foundational system.
@srmeers1 : I just finished ED110 Stress and Time Management. This was an excellent course because it confirmed what I have always known to be true - if you don't balance your work and home life and find coping mechanisms for your stress - it will effect your health. I plan on using my lunch hour from now on to take a 30 minute walk. This will help me cope with my morning class and prepare me for my afternoon class.
@srmeers1 : I have been working through max-knowledge for a few years. The course information is very helpful, however for on line courses it has a tendency to be an enormous amount of information. That could be broken down into more managable bites.
I have recently completed ED104. It has helped me undertstand the importance of detailing expectations for students to ensure an organized, well managed, classroom. It has also made me recognize what I have already been doing to better manage my classrooms. Professional interaction with students was also a key point for this unit. I am a stickler for professionalism but am able to show the students that I am fun and love what I do.
