relate stress

We have been at the stress point before , we can help students with this.

Yes we have, usually when i see a student really stressed i tell them stu mennie stories!

Everyone has different levels of stress and just listening to the students and understanding is sometimes enough to help them cope with the stress.

Everybody deals with stress at one point or another. One of the best ways to help the students with stress is to listen to them. Sometimes we may not always have the answer to their problem, but at least we can direct them to someone that will help. And just that we took the time to listen makes a big difference.

In times like we have now with jobs so hard to come by I have noticed that our students stress level is at and all time high. I have noticed that many of my students just need to talk and get it out, more times than not they will thank me for just hearing their problems. I have seen big changes in their performance level after listening to my students problems.

I believe that when we can listen to there issues and let them talk to a person that is nuetral they can find a sulution to the problem. Being able to be there for them so they don't feel alone is a big thing.

I agree, but we must demonstrate empathy, not apathy. I have actually seen some instructors answer students problems with a "well I've seen worse" or "I ve been through that and did just fine" or " another student managed to hold it together through similar circumstances, why can't you?"

Every student is an individual, that responds differently to stress. It is important we always remember that.

An open ear can be the most helpful tool an instructor has to lower stress levels in a students life.
