Videotape YOU! It is a good idea to have yourself videotaped occasionally to see how you are really presenting yourself. Get ready! These are hard to watch! difficult as these tapes are to watch but are useful and valuable in fixing those things about ourselves that if truth is being told are more of a distraction to the students than helping them learn the content!
Tanya,
Video taping is intimidating. There is no way around this. On the other hand video taping shows you like you are seen by your students so you can make adjustments or changes that will reduce the things you see yourself doing you don't like as well as reinforcing the good things you are doing. Great way to expand your delivery expertise once you get through the shock of seeing yourself in this setting.

I would like to do this. How do I bring it up to my supervisor. I would like to do this simply for self improvement-not for supervisor/management etc to view.-I'm comfortable with them doing teaching evaluations on me in person like always but videotaping does seem a bit intimidating.
When you do this, you teach the importance of continuous improvement, and instill that we are all LIFELONG learners, regardless of our age or educational levels. And to embrace this, is a very good thing...even if at times uncomfortable.
Aaron,
Yes, it is a good strategy for instructional improvement but you are right about being hard to watch. They certainly are growth opportunities because we do no realize how we move and communicate until we are caught on tape.
