Diversity in the Workplace

I read some comments the other day about diversity in the workplace. It goes without saying that we manage diverse staffs on our career college campuses and universities. And our faculty also teach a diverse student population. We have always known that a component of diversity is, of course, respect for others' cultures, customs and mores. Yet, it is also so much more.

What is your definition of diversity in the workplace and how can we maximize the value of the wonderful cultural differences among our faculty and staffs?

4 Tenents of Leadership

As we develop the managers and administrators at our career institutions we continue to focus on the true tenets of leadership.

Here are four such tenets. Though not an exhaustive list, they may serve to put leadership into perspective. First, one must have the dedication and vision to exercise workplace leadership principles in the first place; second, the commitment to stay focused on how vision moves daily operations forward; third, the courage to step up to the plate; and fourth, the accountability to accept the consequences for leadership actions.

This course helped me to fine tune my stress management skills.  Seeing that we live in a world that is filled with astronomical  amounts of pressure, the mental excersises presented to me make complete sense. It's one of those things that you say to yourself, "why didn't I think of that?" It is a temporary banaide to get you through the day.  I typically am not a big worrier, however, when I do feel the anxiety creeping in, I now feel better equiped to deal with that particular issue.

10 Fundamental Questions to Ask to Manage Time and Priorities

As career college leaders, our time, challenged by so many competing tasks and responsibilities, is a most valuable resource. Much has been written about time management; perhaps effectively managing our time, and our priorities, comes down to asking a few fundamental questions:

•    Which tasks are the most urgent?
•    Which projects that upon timely completion will yield the most significant results?
•    What activities require resources that are not available at the time?
•    Which tasks that if not completed will affect someone else’s work schedule?
•    What are the financial costs associated with delaying a project?

Great course on budgeting. Lots of insite about the complete process.

management and leadership is everything

hello,

after i compelted my MSN in 2008, i learned very quiclkly that businesses, companies, and academic programs are only as good as the leader who is in charge. i have always been facinated by the many types of leadership styles and the results they have created. some leaders have a militrary style approach and some leaders use a more empathetic approach. at the end of the day, if the results are positive it is hard to argue that any style i either effective or ineffective. these training sessions have been very informative as it relates to reminding myself about… >>>

I benefited a great deal from this course.  I will definitely be taking some of what I learned to the classroom.  Currently we are learning about small businessess and customers; creating and maintaining them.  I especially like the downloadable worksheets this course offers that can be used in calculating goals for customers as well as employees.

It was good  to review some of the things I knew but learned about how to stretch myself more appropraitely. I need to determine what skills I have to help the company grow!

Great Course ML120

This was a great course for me since I am responsible for my team's proformance reviews. I have applied some of what I learned to a round of reviews i gave on friday and I found a lot less resistance to suggestions than I have in the past.

I learned alot from this course and plan to use it personally and to pass it on to my students who are just entering the school at which I teach in the evening.  They have a lot of stress and I am sure they will get help with this information. Thank you.

Manager vs Leader

I learned that I tend to be more of a leader than a manager.  Although I have had supervisory positions in the past I thought I was a manager not a leader.  In a way this lesson was an eye opener and i will practice leadership skills as well as management skills.  I do plan to use them in the classroom since I think an instructor is more of a leader than a manager.

Management vs Leader

I learned alot about my skills.. I am definetly a manager. Maybe some day by taking this course I will learn to somday be more of a leader.

Time Management is a universal skills

Time management is universal in that all people can utilize this skill and it is especially important for new students as they are beginning a new segment in their lives and need to juggle alot of issues.

Confirmation that I am on the right track!

I think Time Management skills are very important. My friends often tease me about being "overly organized." I schedule everything. I was happy to learn that I currently do many of the tips provided. There are some things that I don't do that I may start implementing, but I'm in no rush. ;-) Right now, my system works for me. I do like the information provided.

Enjoy!

Great course to discuss stress free work zones.

I really enjoyed this course and happy with all the additional resources. I can start to implement these time management skills immediately every day a little at a time so that I can be a more beneficial employee and individual. I think probably one of the main determinates that diferentiates successfull people from the unsuccessful-besides obvious talent, knowledge and skills-is time management. Someone can have all the talent skill and knowledge in the world but if they don't know how to organize it and implement it effectively then it will not avail in the long run.

This course was very informative and gave me great insight into the hiring process that I will definitely use in the next round of hiring here at our school.
