I think a teacher should remind his or herself daily so that we don't become frustrated.
there are many types of mental disorders in our classrooms today. If we are trained in some of the symptoms of these disorders, we may be able to recognize and accommodate these students more effectively. I will get to know my students better and be patient with all my students. Every day is a new day.
The importance of focusing on the student and not the diagnosis. A person is more then their disability.
I have learned there are multiple types of disorders and all students need treated fairly and equally.
I have learned that it is more important for the teacher to focus more on the student then the disorder that they have. I also learned that it helps to not single them out or bring more attention to their disorder
This presentation has a lot of data on ODD and I have a background in Psychiatry and and was still enlightened. This was an excellent section of the module
This module helped to unpack the varied list of psychological disabilities and provided typical accommodations and behaviors and actions to avoid while working with these students.
This was a great refresher on the different personalities I deal with on a daily basis in the classroom and what the diagnosis means and how I can accommodate them.
In this section, one thing I learned about was Obsessive-Complusive Disorder. Some of the symptoms of this disorder include recurrent thoughts or images that are not excessive worries. With this information, I will try to better make accommodations for students with this disability.
Students will make mistakes but it is vital to allow them to recovery from mistakes.
I learned that bipolar disorder causes unusual shifts in a person’s mood, energy and ability to function. I learned that a person who has OCD experiences recurrent thoughts, impulses, or images that are not simply excessive worries about real life problems.
There are many psychological disorders under the DMS-IV umbrella that often correlate with one another.
This was a very informative lecture which discussed best practices when dealing with individuals with mental health disorders. Effective listening was a major take away for me , as well as a new fresh start every time they come to class.

Similar to other types of disabilities, having a psychological disability doesn't mean that there will always be an impact on the student's learning needs. Setting clear expectations, developing systems for the students, avoiding triggers, and staying calm and supportive may help support a student with successful learning in the classroom.
I have learned about the varying mental health disorders in the educational community and how educators can help the student by individualizing their success to meet their needs in the classroom. These are often diagnosed later as they are difficult to catch.
Mental health disorders can be an impediment in the classroom, but a supportive instructor and how the classroom is set up can help tremendously.
Teachers must be consistent and not undermine students who struggle with these issues.
Its important to recognize when a student has a mental disorder and is not just being difficult. Patience with these students will enable us to come up with a plan to cope.
