Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.

VR and AI have provided many new ways to integrate technology into online learning.

Various technologies are available to keep online learners actively engaged in the learning process. I intend to check out the following: ClassVR and Orlando Economic Partnership, as I think both would benefit nursing students.

Online learning can be very beneficial to students who are self motivated and have good time management skills.

This module on the benefits of online learning really opened my eyes to the flexibility and accessibility it provides for both students and instructors. I’ve learned how online platforms can foster diverse forms of engagement, like multimedia resources, asynchronous discussions, and personalized learning paths. One key takeaway for me is how online learning can empower students to take ownership of their education by accessing materials on their own time and revisiting concepts as needed.

Online learning requires motivation to complete tasks, stay engaged, and make progress.

I learned the difference between in-active and online learning. I found this resource to be very helpful

Love online learning and the technology that goes with it

Students can learn more in an online environment if the instructor will take an active approach to communicating and getting to know the student.

According to this module, "Another great benefit of asynchronous and synchronous opportunities with online learning, is the customization in learning that online provides."

I will need to look more into how to integrate different learning pathways for my students - I find this harder to do in an asynchronous format.

Online learning provides flexibility for students in an environment that has increased demands for those who have work, family, and other responsibilities. One of the biggest challenges with online learning is time management.

Instructors must selectively use technologies toward a multipronged approach to facilitating learning outcomes, ensuring along the way that students receive the feedback they need to overcome confusion, better understand objectives and material, and understand their progress in actually learning the material.

Students learn more in an online environment than they do in traditional courses. Online courses give students full control over their own learning, students are able to work at their own speed. Students love the flexibility it offers. It is imperative for students to have good time management skills in an online course. Offering a way to communicate and encourage students in an online environment is important.

Online classes can help accommodate the busy life of a student. Although, online classes can be flexible it also means they will need to make sure they have some sort of structured daily schedule in order to be successful in an online community. I learned that many students might struggle while other thrive when it comes to online classes. Overall, we as instructors should be monitoring student success and engagement throughout our course can help us identify and change our way of teaching an online course!

Comment on Thomas Pullin's post: Hi Thomas, I agree. The online learning platform allows students to have flexibility. Some programs even allow students to learn at their own pace, independently. I have learned so much that I can apply to my faculty role as an online instructor.

According to IBM, most students learn 5 times more information in an online course.

The biggest complaint of online learning is "Where's my professor?" I have heard this before quite frequently at a previous learning institution that only had asynchronous programs. Students were not given access to subject matter experts and were expected to use only what was available in the courses to "figure it out". Moving forward, if programs are primarily asynchronous in their start/end times, material and assignments, having a synchronous element to connect directly with instructors (and students if possible) may help incorporate more active learning.

Some ways to ensure active learning for students are to include planned and structured opportunities for regular interaction with the instructor (particularly for feedback) and with other students. Provide a number of outside resources that students can choose from to fit their learning styles and to provide resources that help them to continue learning and working with the information after the course ends. The use of newer technologies and social media is also helpful, as particularly younger students are familiar with and interested in these. Overall, connection to a learning community and various pathways that lead to the same objective increase active learning.

instructors should include optional online resources for learners who need further instruction.
