Personal Professional Educational Stories for my Audio Engineering Students

The pargraphes that follow are stories that I find myself telling students on a regular basis. I decided to document these so that I could include them as part of my profile so that students could learn about me and about what they are learning about at the same time. One advantage of the process was the clarifying of thought that putting an experience down on paper gave me.

My first record was a gold record called "Australian my Homeland" it was a promotional record for Luxaflex and they ordered a 100,000 units. I was an assistant engineer and… >>>

Listen

The best way to manage students that I have found is to be assertive, consistent, effectively listen to students, and always be kind.

Managing the Class and Students

The strategies discussed in the course refreshed my thinking about how to sustain interest on the topic matter.

Managing the class and students

Classroom management and management of student conduct are skills that teachers acquire and hone over time through experience and knowledge

NV cues

Ater going through the first three modules I realized that some of my NV cues while teaching in the clinical setting should be rendered. I tend to get frustrsted (ans I am sure it shows!) with the students that are unorganized, and lacking good time management skills.  I tend to be more relaxed with the students who are on task and prepared for their sessions.

Using ice breakers

I plan to use an icebreaker described in one of the modules to help get students involved early in the class and to demonstrate how such interaction can help with class assignments.

Class Management Strategies

I am a Nursing Simulation Instructor. What I have learned from this ED104 course reinforces what I have been doing as a simulation facilitator. For one, pre- briefing activities like reading materials, visual teachings and review exercises set the tone and direction of what the students can expect with me and our classes. I brief them too on our sim activities based on their lecture syllabus and I discuss with them what is expected when they simulate, utilizing the QSEN core competencies for evaluation. I also do in- scenario in- coaching but with variable intensities based on the Simulation Class… >>>

New to teaching at a career college

I have taught level 4 and 500 exercise physiology courses at the University level for the past three years.  I recently was hired as an instructor in a personal training program and I believe a big challenge for me is that I am going to have to remember that my current students are not as educationally prepared as what I am used to.  I feel this will be a good learning experience for me because I am going to have to reduce my teaching knowledge to better meet my new students levels of understanding.

sharing

As a new instructor I see how important the 1st day(or 1st few days) of class can be at beginning to establish a classroom culture of mutual respect and trust.

Class Room Management

This course was very helpful. It causes you to look at your classroom management styles and is a bit humbling.  Many helpful and easy to implement stategies were given.

Stress Relief

This course offered so many solutions in dealing with stress. I look forward to using these methods I have learned.

Making the most of the classroom environment

The topic of classroom management is one that is a constant learning discovery. I have learned much of this material in previous courses or through my own classroom experience but I was very keen to learn more about how manage students with undesirable behaviors. One of the things I learned about was how make sure that my syllabus and course materials reflect clear guidelines of my expectations and the deadlines for assignments. Often, when i teach a class for the first time, I begin with materials that are already in place, only to find out that they are inadequate or… >>>

Mistakes by Instructor

I have been teaching for almost twelve years and have experienced many of the issues addressed in this instruction.  I would have to say that I learned the most from my mistakes.  Although mistakes are very humbling, they force you to reflect on how to deal with problems in the classroom better and prepare you to assert yourself better next time.

Angry/Complaining Student

It was refreshing to learn an effective strategy to interact positively with "challenging" students. Asking/encouraging the student to submit their "concerns" in writing creates an optimal learning experience for everyone. From my perspective, it provides an opportunity to reinvent and reinvest ourselves on this journey of higher education. It's a win-win situation!!

Instructor Motivation

I really appreciate having the opportunity to take this course ED104.  I was enlighten on many issues that I had encountered as a first time instructor.  By the time I approach my next class assignments I will be fully prepared to focus on the diverse teaching methods, assess the needs and concerns of the students, and the ability to create a learning environment by using the syllabus better.

Begin each session with positivity!

I make a point to begin each class in a positive upbeat greeting projected on the wall also stating the learning objectives for that day.  Students clearly know what is expected each day.  Encouragement is given throughout the class period.  Students that feel defeated prior to class, now have reason to decrease negativity.

Management of a classroom

The style of management changes with every class that is being taught. As an instructor, we have to change our style of teaching as well as managing our classes and to be positive for each student and the class!

Students and Non verbal communication

Students use non verbal communication the majority of the time. Teachers must learn to pay more attention to this type of behavior.

Engaging shy students

When engaging shy students, it is important to continue the conversation once you get the student to open up.  Rather than making the progress forward a onetime occurrence, make effort to engage the student on a repeated basis.  This will help the student with the present class as well as help the student in future classes.  If all instructors are practicing this technique, the student will become a better person as well as a better student.

Improving Delivery

One of the valuable concepts from this course that I believe will help my sudents complete homework is to highlight or put a box around the deadline. I give my students a printout of the online calendar, but the homework listed in the box can be overlooked as it is crowded by other objectives for the day. From now on, on the first day of the class I will have the students highlight or circle the exam and homework listings. This way it will stand out to them and help them to complete the assignment and to be prepared for… >>>
